With a new year around the corner, it's time for us to prepare ourselves and invest in the future. Whether you like real estate, stocks, or Cryptocurrency, do your best research and invest for the long term. Most people lose money because they don’t bother to do their own research and they look for rapid returns. Discipline and patience are the virtue in intelligent investing. Greed and instant gratification are the set up for failure in life. I wrote a similar article about a month ago. Below are some of the stocks I'll be buying for 3-5 years.
In this article I'll emphasize on some big sectors which will keep growing in the years to come. In each sector I’ll try to identify some of the favorite companies which can give us decent returns in the future.
EV: Electric vehicle market is already exploding, there are so many new companies making huge gains recently. If you look into the sector, there are some big and some unknown names but I always chose the best of the breed. Tesla (TSLA), NIO, and BYDDF are some names everyone should have in their portfolio. You don’t need all three but at least one or two. When you talk about EV, the other way to play in this sector is to buy some of the battery companies; my two favorites are Plug Power (PLUG) and Switchback energy (SBE).
5G: The Internet in the future will be much faster and better with 5G. There are several big names in this sector; the best in this group are Qualcomm (QCOM), Skyworks Solution (SWKS), and Marvell technology (MRVL).
Artificial Intelligence: AI is impacting our lives already and it will have a huge impact in every emerging technology or industry, whether it's IOT, Data or robotics, we will see huge advancement in this sector. It's a very broad sector but some of the names everyone likes to invest are, NVIDIA, AMD, and Microsoft. With any opportunity in future, everyone needs to get into these names and leave it for the foreseeable future.
Data: Data is the new gold. Companies that are rich in data will be the biggest beneficiaries in the future for this sector. They not only possess our information but also our behavior, daily driving behavior, our shopping behavior, what we like to search, and etc. Companies who got the most data are Google, FB, AAPL, and Palantir (PLTR).
Biotech: Genomic science is the future but it is the most underrated and poorly understood field with tremendous growth potential. Genomics is the study of a person's genes and how scientists can use this study to prevent, treat and predict diseases. Companies in this sector are changing the healthcare industry. Big names have a lot of potential for long term wealth creation. Some of my favorites are CRISPR therapeutics (CRSP), Invitae corporations (NVTA), Pacific biosciences corporations (PACB), and Ilumina (ILMN).
Fintech: Fintech is a combination of the term Finance and technology. We are experiencing a big change in terms of how we process the payment these days. The two most common companies in this revolutionary digital payment space are Paypal (PYPL) and Square (SQ). There’s another less known but rapidly growing company from Latin America, which is also backed by Warren Buffet, called Stonecold Ltd (STNE).
RealEState: Zillow (Z) and ExpWorld holdings (EXPI) are disrupting the way traditional real estate agents and companies do business. With interest rates so low, people are taking advantage and buying homes at a very rapid rate. They are using Zillow and EXPI realtors for all their needs.
Renewable energy: Biden administration has pledged trillions of dollars into clean energy over the next several years. No matter which government comes in, the whole world is headed towards clean energy. The biggest beneficiaries are the companies who do wind, solar and hydroelectric power. Some of the big names in this sector are First Solar (FSLR), Nextera energy (NEE), and Brookfield renewable (BEP).
I’m looking to continue investing in quality names for the next several years. I like to buy and hold but also regularly take profit after I achieve certain percentage growth in individual stocks. My goal is to consistently grow 15-20%/yr for the next several years. Fortunately in the last 3 years, my portfolio has grown over 40% every year (considering the market didn't crash before January 01st, 2021).
I also like to diversify my investments between stocks, real estate, and new start ups. Starting a business can be so easy due to modern-day technology, like Youtube, Instagram, Facebook stores, Amazon, etc. No matter where in the world you live, you can open up a digital or online business with minimum capital. If you can’t do it yourself, team up with someone trustworthy who has a track record and knowledge in the field.
Also, learn how to save yourself from paying very high taxes. Have a good accountant and never try to hire someone just because they are cheap. I hope you do your own due diligence before investing, this article is just to share what I’ll be doing in future and what I look for when I buy stocks.
